My Story
My name is Alvira Ferreira, I am a visual artist originally from Cape Town, South Africa, now based in Luxembourg. Working primarily with oil paint and collage, my art delves into the complexities of human interactions and the interventions that shape specific moments in time and space. Through my work, I create intriguing worlds that serve as stepping stones to new possibilities, exploring how we live, how we might live, and the unexpected turns life can take.
My paintings and collages often blur the lines between the ordinary and the extraordinary, emphasizing that no detail is ever insignificant. I invite viewers to see beyond the surface, finding beauty and meaning in the small, seemingly mundane aspects of life.
My Artist Statement
I explore relationship and connection in my work. Relationship in context of human interactions and intervention in specific times and space. I create work with storytelling elements, stories that don't necessarily have neatly resolved plots, but that hopefully makes the viewer wonder and invite reflection. I do this by combining images most often of figures into intermediate impossibles [definition: ideas or (in this case) images that are highly unlikely but that help you get from one concept to another]. I am speaking about how we live, how we could live and the unforeseen things in life. How the ordinary and the extraordinary interact and how, in fact, there are no unimportant things in life.
